The USS John Paul Jones (DDG-53) passes under the southern span of the Golden Gate Bridge during the Parade of Ships as part of the 2006 San Francisco Fleet Week activities. The USS John Paul Jones (DDG-53) was commissioned on December 18, 1993 as the third Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyer, and is homeported in San Diego, California. The ship is named in honor of Naval hero, John Paul Jones, and derives her motto, "In Harms Way," from a famous quote of his, "I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast, for I intend to go in harm's way."
